Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that develops after an individual experience or is exposed to a traumatic event and is not equipped to handle it now. This condition is globally prevalent and can happen in any individual. The symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorders include re-experiencing traumatic memories, negative and emotional cognitions, and hyperarousal. PTSD is associated with impaired function in several brain regions, including the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. This review will consider the different aspects of treatment approaches to PTSD and will examine the effectiveness and mechanisms of promising pharmacological medicines and established psychotherapies. This paper aims to help identify and discuss the most reliable and cost-effective integrated strategies for both the prevention and ongoing management of PTSD, along with exploring emerging therapies.
