Abstract India’s healthcare system has witnessed significant advancements, yet challenges regarding patient safety and quality of care. Ongoing efforts in the public and private sectors aim to improve the quality of data, develop better measures and understanding of the quality of care, and develop innovative solutions to long-standing challenges. We summarize priorities and the challenges to improve the quality of care and explore the implementation of a Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QUALIPS) culture as a framework for achieving excellence in Indian healthcare delivery. The QUALIPS framework emphasizes continuous improvement, patient-centered care, evidence-based practices, resource optimization, and system-level thinking. This paper investigates the potential of QUALIPS to address key concerns such as medical errors, medication mismanagement, and inconsistent care delivery. It further explores how QUALIPS can contribute to cost reduction, improved efficiency, and a culture of transparency and learning.
