Distribution transformer failures significantly impact electricity supply reliability in developing countries. This study addresses maintenance management challenges affecting transformer availability performance in Kinondoni North, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where inadequate maintenance strategies have resulted in a 48% transformer failure rate. Using a mixed-methods approach with 54 electricity distribution professionals, the research identified critical factors affecting transformer performance and developed a comprehensive maintenance management system. The Relative Importance Index analysis revealed load distribution balance as the most critical factor, followed by transformer age and voltage regulation accuracy. A multiple regression model was developed, explaining 63.1% of the variance in availability performance with statistical significance (F = 13.402, p < 0.001). A Python-based Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) was developed featuring dashboard metrics, work order management, and asset tracking capabilities. Despite 96.3% familiarity with computerised systems, only 3.7% reported current usage, highlighting significant implementation opportunities. The study contributes practical tools for transforming reactive maintenance approaches to proactive, evidence-based strategies, supporting more reliable electricity distribution networks in developing contexts
