The thrust of this study was to examine social vices and academic performance of students in Social Studies in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literature review was carried out accordingly. Survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of four hundred and eighty-eight (488) students from a population of 5,039 was randomly selected through the stratified sampling for the study. Questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. The reliability estimate of the instruments was established through Cronbach Alpha reliability method. Regression analysis was the statistical technique employed to test the hypotheses under study. Each hypothesis was tested at .05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that, cultism, drug abuse and Examination malpractice truancy significantly predicted academic performance of students in Social Studies in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended among others that government and non-governmental agencies and the media should step up their campaigns against cultism and its destructive tendencies. The evil nature of cultism should be explained to Students at all levels through sensitization, seminars, workshops, symposium, posters, handbills and public lectures.
