The article examines the current issues of countering extremist crimes committed in institutions of the penal system. As a result of the research, the author notes that the crimes in question have a high degree of public danger, being a threat to the state and public security of the Russian Federation. The author argues for the need to develop a set of legal and criminological measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of countering extremist crimes committed in institutions of the penal system.
