With rising electricity prices due to the growing energy crisis in Europe and Serbia, the transmission system operator is facing increasing costs related to technical losses within the transmission network. Therefore, from a power system planning perspective, it is crucial to assess how upcoming projects will influence technical loss levels in the transmission system. According to EMS AD’s business strategy, investments in electricity transmission infrastructure should focus on enhancing the efficiency of transmission system management and supporting the sustainable integration of renewable energy sources. This paper will explore trends in technical losses within the transmission system, considering current requirements for grid connections. The analysis will take into account the latest regulations for connecting renewable energy power plants, the current Transmission System Development Plan, and historical data on technical losses within the transmission network. Using a network model of Serbia’s existing and future power system in the Siemens PSS/E software, the study will examine how integrating renewable energy sources affects technical loss levels in the transmission system.
