Educating students about environmental issues is an important step towards a green future and one of the main goals to which the entire community is committed. The aim of the work is to raise students' awareness of the importance of environmental protection through the system of formal education in Serbia. It is the Eco-Schools that deal with the implementation of systemic and participatory educational programs through various project activities. The role of all actors who can contribute to the environmental education of students is important, and in addition to teachers and parents, the local community is also important. Topics covered in the program content include water, air and soil protection, sustainable development, waste management and climate change, as they can influence awareness of the importance of environmental protection. The results of the work indicate that ecological education is possible through the processing of the mentioned topics with the aim of the active role of students and their contribution to a green future.
