Abstract Size alone is not a criterion of the profitable tree. Quality is of collateral importance. Quality depends upon the conditions that have existed in the forest during its life. How quality affects the value of the tree, and how the silviculturist may control it in the case of loblolly pine is indicated in this brief article.
