Abstract The Hammond-Demo Forest Practice Act passed by the New York Assembly in February, 1946 offers the most comprehensive aid to private forest owners of any state or federal program so far initiated. This aid is contingent upon the landowner complying with minimum standards of forest practice as set forth by district and state forest practice boards. The director of the Division of Lands and Forests outlines the progress made during the first year's operation of this law.
