Abstract The following committee report and Prof. Hawley's comment thereon were presented at the winter meeting of the New England Section, Society of American Foresters, March 2, 1944, at Boston, Mass. The foreword was prepared subsequently by the chairman of the section in order to place the report in its proper setting for purposes of publication. The activities of the New England Section in this field constitute a constructive effort to reach some agreement as to what may be regarded as satisfactory forest practice in the various forest types of the region.
