Abstract In the Northeast as elsewhere in the country, the practice of forestry has lagged behind technical knowledge in the fields of silvicultnre, forest management, and wood ntilization. This article attempts to explore some of the causes for this lag and to suggest some of the things that may be done to reduce it. Particular attention has been focused on the difficulties confronted by the owners of small to medium-sized properties.
