Effective media engagement is a cornerstone of crisis communication, enabling organizations to share timely information, foster trust, and support resilience. This article examines strategies for leveraging traditional and social media during crises, including press releases, media kits, press conferences, and digital communication. Special focus is given to low-resource environments where adaptive methods such as community radio and SMS briefings ensure accessibility. Case studies from the Haiti earthquake, COVID-19 pandemic, Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, and NGO engagement in India demonstrate practical applications and highlight the importance of proactive relationships with journalists, transparency, and staff media training. By combining these strategies, organizations can strengthen communication capacity, enhance credibility, and sustain public confidence in crisis response.
