The review highly appreciates the second corrected and significantly revised edition of the book written by an experienced team of linguists and tested in the joint research and creative work of the teaching staff and students of Moscow City University. The book pays great attention to forming a meta-language of scientific description. Considering methodology issues of linguistic research leads to explicating a wide range of new methods of analysis, each accompanied by a brief theoretical description and an outlook for application. The study of the genre diversity of academic discourse and issues of academic ethics enabled to propose a number of innovative pragmatic recommendations for research in the field of stylistic and textual analyses. Revealing the subtleties of the structure of a scientific work, the book introduces new, hybrid genres of scientific communication. The value of the book increases due to the analysis of criteria for evaluating scientific articles. The pragmatic effect is enhanced by stimulating the development of a research strategy using digital resources.
