The article examines the current trend of increasing the share of the elderly population in the overall structure of modern society and, in this regard, the search for effective methods to correct this process. The government and the scientific community are making targeted efforts to address this pressing issue, both through the continuous improvement of the legal framework at all levels and through initiatives to develop institutionalization by creating specialized facilities for elderly citizens with various social, medical, and psychological needs. In connection with the development of institutionalization and the creation of departments on the basis of the Complexes of social service centres for the population that take into account the needs of older people in various areas of medical, social and psychological support, the need for personnel ready to promptly and comprehensively solve specific problems of recipients of social services, relying on the gerontological and geriatric potential of scientific research, has become urgent. The development of an interdepartmental approach has opened up opportunities for interaction between specialists in the process of solving both individual problems and implementing entire programs, taking into account the specifics of institutions and the characteristics of aging models. The article substantiates the types of activities to prevent a decrease in the level of cognitive reserve and activate the thought processes of older people. A digital program for working with older people with visual impairments is considered in detail. At the end of the article, the authors draw conclusions about the relevance of developing areas of scientific research in the field of creating conditions for successful aging.
