Squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity is the most common malignancy noted globally.Pathogenesis of premalignant and malignant oral lesions is mainly attributed to the alteration in the molecular mechanisms that regulate apoptosis and cell proliferation. B-cell lymphoma gene 2 (Bcl-2) is the anti-apoptotic gene that prolongs cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis and is associated with the aggressive behaviour of malignant tumours. The aim of the study was to evaluate Bcl-2 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma and dysplastic lesions of the oral cavity and to compare its expression with various grades of dysplasia and carcinoma.
