Abstract Managing natural resources today is an increasingly complicated task. In this age of ecosystem management, geographic information systems, and increasing public scrutiny, many managers use a team approach to meet their goals. The soil scientist, wildlife biologist, land planner, and recreation manager often join forces with the forester to produce the most appropriate management plan. However, the forest technician can and should be an equally vital member of this management team. The specific strengths developed by forest technician training make this expertise a valuable and productive addition to the natural resource team.
