This article is carried out within the framework of the research of syntactic synonymy, that is still distinguished in modern linguistics by a high degree of debatability and therefore does not lose its topicality.The object of our study is synonymous adverbial subordinate clauses and phrases with non-finite forms of the English verb.The paper examines syntactic constructions with the meaning of time on the material of contexts selected through a continuous selection from the Englishlanguage fiction.The subject of the research is to determine the conditions for the emergence of synonymous relations between them.The methods used include the comparative analysis with the involvement of semantic analysis, as well as quantitative calculations.Results of the research: the article clarifies the initial understanding of syntactic synonyms in compliance with the logical requirements for the concept definition and highlights the priority criteria of synonymy for the syntactic constructions studied.
