The Sui Generis Transition of The Media in Kosovo

Objective: This paper investigates the rapid evolution of Albanian-language media in Kosovo over the past two decades, a transformation that typically spans much longer periods in other contexts. Theoretical Framework: The study examines this evolution through the lens of media development theories, considering the unique socio-political landscape of Kosovo and the broader region. Methods: The research employs a qualitative approach, analyzing historical and contemporary media sources, political developments, and the impact of regional events on the media landscape. Results and Conclusions: The findings reveal that the rapid transformation of Albanian-language media in Kosovo is significantly influenced by political changes both within Kosovo and in the surrounding region. This transformation has resulted in a media landscape that is uniquely dynamic and rapidly evolving compared to conventional media development trajectories. Implications of Research: The study underscores the importance of understanding media evolution within specific socio-political contexts, providing insights that can inform media development strategies in other regions undergoing similar transitions.
