Abstract Introduction Acrylates are widely used in various sectors, including dentistry. Some high-risk professional practices can lead to allergic contact dermatitis. Methods and Results A second-year dentistry intern, aged 28, with no history of atopy, consulted the Occupational Medicine Department of Monastir’s University Hospital with an itching erythemato-vesicular skin plate, poorly limited, on the back of the left hand’s the first commissure, which has been evolving for a month. The professional investigation revealed that the patient uses acrylate-based composite resins and wears latex gloves. During dental treatment, he removes the excess resin used with a probe, which he then wipes onto the glove on the first commissure of his left hand. Patch tests using the European Standard Battery and the Dental Products Battery revealed a positive two-cross reaction to 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate and Ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate. Discussion Latex or vinyl gloves are rapidly permeated by acrylates. double gloving could be used if the activity does not exceed 15 minutes. For a task lasting more than 15 minutes, nitrile gloves, as a double layer with other gloves, are a compromise between efficiency and professional practice. Conclusion As latex gloves are permeable to acrylates, double nitrile gloves should be worn, especially for prolonged skin contact. The patient and his co-workers were advised to avoid this high-risk professional gesture.
