Pos0083-Pare Getting Research Into the Hands of People Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Novel Approach From the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort (Catch)

Background: The Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort (CATCH) is the only Canada-wide, multi-centre, early arthritis cohort study that is following people with new onset inflammatory or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) over time. Translating research knowledge from evidence to action is important especially to patients who live with RA to help them actively be part of shared decision making. Knowledge translation (KT) is the process of taking research findings and making them understandable and applicable to different audiences, like patients and the public, however patients and the public are often left out of this process. Objectives: Our objective was to develop a novel video-series developed with patient/public engagement along with our other KT products. Methods: KT specialists who live with RA (LP, DPR) developed a KT plan guided by the Knowledge to Action Framework (K2A) focused on patients as the target audience and worked with the core project team (JC, OS, VB). The KT plan included a list of topics that might be of interest to people with RA, CATCH research, and KT strategies (e.g. videos). Patient input (topics for videos, questions) was sought with Twitter/X polling and members of the Scientific Advisory Committee (EK, JP, CT, GB, SB, LB, GH, DT, CH) and people with RA (MEV, MCB) were consulted about this input. KT specialists filmed the videos in person, developed plain language summaries of research results, and did outreach to patient organizations to compile evidence-based resources by topic. The videos were disseminated on various social media platforms, like Twitter/X, YouTube, Instagram, and the CATCH website. Results: We have developed 100, two-to-three-minute English and French videos on a range of topics of interest to people living with RA, such as: living with and facts about RA; preventing infections/ vaccines; work; and flares, pain, and fatigue. We measured the KT uptake with social media and website traffic data: the YouTube channel has 96,324 video views and 548 subscribers, the Twitter/X platform has over 1000 followers, and Instagram has recently been launched and has 95 followers. New relationships have also been established with patient organizations and health care professional organizations in Canada. Conclusion: Our KT approach addresses an important gap by sharing research knowledge with patients and the public through accessible, engaging, and user-friendly videos. Future efforts include adapting the KT plan to particular health care professionals' and policy makers and measuring the impact of KT plans on patients' knowledge and behaviour. REFERENCES: NIL.
