Fellowship programs approved by the ABA include critical care, pain, cardiothoracic, and pediatric anesthesiology. Additionally, there are other anesthesiology subspecialities that can be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), though they do not offer board-certification. Those subspecialties include addiction medicine, clinical informatics, hospice and palliative medicine, obstetric anesthesiology, pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, and regional anesthesiology and acute pain. Yet, there are even other options in fellowship training that allow for subspecialization that have yet to become ACGME accredited, but which are gaining prominence within the anesthesiology community.
