In the aerospace industry, the demand for precise non-destructive testing has grown to ensure the safety of aircraft and spacecraft. Among these, laser ultrasonic non-destructive testing is emerging as a favored technique in structural health monitoring due to its ability to inspect from a distance without requiring a medium. Laser mirror scanners (LMS), which are composed of two galvanometers to direct a laser beam onto an inspection target, have become increasingly popular in laser scanning systems. Their advantages include being more cost-effective, faster in beam steering, and more compact in size compared to systems that utilize linear servo motors. However, when considering mobile inspection systems for on-site inspection, there's a challenge in determining the initial steering point (or the origin point) of the LMS. This can be risky as there's the potential to direct the laser beam to an unintended location. In this study, a calibration technique is investigated that utilizes a LiDAR camera to capture a three-dimensional point cloud of the specimen, enabling the LMS to accurately direct the laser beam to the desired location.
