The purpose of this paper is to propose a compensation method for improving the transient response of the voltage-mode buck converters. The buck converters can achieve good closed-loop performance over a wide output power range with different input voltages by arranging the zeros and poles in type-III compensator. Moreover, the proposed method can solve the underdamping issue and stabilize the whole power system. In this paper, the small signal analysis and the design procedure for type-III compensator are described. Then, a design guideline for placing the zeros and poles is presented. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed method are verified by using Matlab/Simulink Sisotool software and PLECS simulation software.
