Prospects for Renewable Energy Sources in Iraq

The article represents a study of actually and future prospects for natural renewable energy sources in deferent region of Iraq. The proximity to the solar belt provides Iraq with the ability to exploit solar energy. Iraq has one of the greatest densities of solar irradiation in the world. Furthermore, numerous parts of Iraq have tremendous wind energy potential. The Southern region is appropriate for establishing wind turbine energy generation projects since the wind speed is within the allowable limit. As one of the future power systems based on renewable resources, a hybrid system ''PV-Wind'' has been proposed for several cities throughout the country. Optimal exploitation of clean energy resources contributes to increasing production in the electrical energy system and reducing outage hours as a result of the current shortfall in total production. It also helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions caused by the consumption of fossil fuels, which benefits the environment.
