Subject. The article considers modification of the current banking business model and creation of a digital ecosystem, which will diversify product offering, improve customer service, increase revenues, i.e. will be competitive. Objectives. The purpose is to investigate the experience of banks creating their own digital ecosystems and trends in their development. Methods. The validity, reliability and argumentation of recommendations are ensured by the use of normative and integrated approaches to the study. The study also employs general scientific methods, like comparative analysis, classification, problem analysis, ranking, and systems approach. Results. The article analyzes the structure of the banking (financial) ecosystem, considers key features of digital platforms of leading Russian banks, unveils advantages and disadvantages of the ecosystem approach, identifies a number of key tasks, the solution of which will ensure the maximization of the value of ecosystem partnerships of banks. Conclusions. Top priority for viable and efficient ecosystem development is a clear understanding by the bank of its strengths, mentality, and current needs of customers, which should be taken into account when developing a strategy for the banking ecosystem.
