Purpose: As interest and efforts in environmental pollution and climate change are expanding worldwide, the space of cities is a very important part of practicing greenhouse gas reduction. As the importance of creating nature-friendly buildings and sustainable cities is increasing in developed countries such as the U.S. and Europe, the United Nations has proposed the goal of creating comprehensive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and residences. Korea is also implementing various policies related to sustainable urban construction, new construction, and existing buildings, but the system and evaluation system for neighboring residential districts that form cities are insufficient. Method: In this study, we identified the current status for urban safety through general information of the Crime Prevention Environment Design (CPTED) system and domestic and international status with the goal of Sustainable and safe cities. In addition, the current status and evaluation items of the overseas Sustainable neighborhood unit certification system (USA, UK, Japan) were analyzed to derive elements that applied crime prevention design principles.
