Abstract Correlations between heights of slash and loblolly pine poly- and single-cross progenies in the nursery and in fifteen 5-year-old plantations were mostly very weak. Only two were significant. Also, only 5 of 17 ratios of the number of progenies still tallest in plantations at age 5 over the number tallest in the nursery were greater than 50 percent. These correlations and success ratios were poor despite the fact that significant differences among progenies were obtained in all nursery studies and in 13 of 15 progeny test plantations.
