Combating human trafficking as a form of international organized crime

Over the last decades there has been an increase of human trafficking, especially the organized form of that crime. Since the beginning of the 21st century the international community has made significant efforts in suppressing human trafficking, considering the prevalence and seriousness of consequences that comes from that criminal act. The aim of this paper is review of advantages and disadvantages in solutions proposed by the international community in combating organized human trafficking. The paper indicates the importance of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Council of Europe Convention on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings on defining and criminalizing human trafficking at the state level, but also in creating prerequisites for successful investigation and prosecution of perpetrators. Additionally, the adoption of certain international legal instruments contributed in better international cooperation and conducting joint investigations. However, despite some of the positive aspects of proposed solutions and activities for their implementation, data still shows an increase of human trafficking. Therefore, this paper also presents views and opinions of different autors related to certain difficulties regarding some of the solutions, which reduced efficiency of international law in combating human trafficking
