Wars have always been a source of instability and social cataclysms. The unexpected beginning of full-scale military operations caused both mass migration of the Ukraine’s population and the mobilization of civil society for protection of the state's territorial integrity and for helping those people who needed it most urgently. Studying the experience of overcoming the consequences of military conflicts is relevant, as it allows you to prevent and overcome future humanitarian crises or disasters provoked by natural or anthropogenic factors. The purpose of the presented work was to study the experience of social catering using the example of self-organization of civil society and supported by local authorities in winter and spring of 2022. A retrospective analysis of open informational sources has been conducted to study the experience of social catering in the conditions of chaos at the beginning of full-scale military operations by russia against Ukraine. It should be noted that social catering developed in 2 directions in 2022: providing military units and territorial defense units engaged in protecting the state’s territorial integrity and receiving and providing for displaced people who were forced to flee their homes due to the war. Analysis of available information revealed active cooperation between public catering establishments, food producers and distributors, and local governments. This cooperation ensured uninterrupted preparation, delivery, and distribution of ready-to-eat (often hot) meals to those in need. The analysis of the actions of civil society and local governments in the chaos of the beginning of a full-scale invasion allows us to evaluate the experience and use it in the event of natural disasters to organize the rallying of socially active citizens and support vulnerable segments of the population. Studying the further prospects of modern catering in Ukraine in conditions of prolonged martial law with a definition of the current state, possible development vectors, and economic prospects of the industry.
