An archaeological evaluation was undertaken for National Power, prior to development of land at Staythorpe and Averham Nottinghamshire. Two trenches were excavated across possible ditches identified from air photographs. No features were discovered, but prehistoric, Roman and medieval artifacts were recovered. The cropmark features had been heavily truncated through ploughing and were not visible in the excavated trenches. A concentration of Roman finds at the end of one trench, where a ditch was expected, suggested that some of the cropmark features were Roman in date.
