Abstract

Sandra Gesing is the Executive Director of the US Research Software Engineer Association, the Director of the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways and a Senior Researcher at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Her work focuses on science gateways, computational workflows, and sustainable research software. A strong advocate for career paths and recognition for research software engineers, she also leads initiatives that connect global communities through shared cyberinfrastructure. Sandra highlights the importance of soft skills, including communication, collaboration, and leadership, as key to building effective research teams. Her career spans academia and industry, including roles at the Discovery Partners Institute, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Tübingen. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Tübingen.
