Data Management Plans helps us describe the data lifecycle for those datasets used in our research projects, from data collection to publication and preservation. A Software Management Plan (SMP) plays a similar role but for software. SMPs aim to raise awareness on good practices for research software development, from casual to production software. In this talk we introduce SMPs and machine-actionable SMPs, together with their alignment to FAIR for Research Software. This talk was presented at the Online Event Series: The future of Research Data Management on 2025-11-18, organized by the Humboldt University of Berlin.
