Mohamad Mostafa delivered a virtual presentation titled “Enabling Open Science with DataCite” during the workshop “DOI Application in Biodiversity Data Sharing”, held on 5 December 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam. In his presentation, Mohamad provided an overview of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, highlighting its four core pillars and their importance for strengthening national research ecosystems. He emphasized the critical role of open research infrastructure and Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)—including DOIs, ROR IDs, and other identifiers—in improving research visibility, transparency, and trust across the biodiversity research community. Mohamad introduced DataCite and its global community, demonstrating how DataCite services support institutions in registering over 33 types of research outputs, resources, and activities, such as datasets, software, field observations, reports, and funding information. He illustrated how PID-enabled metadata enhances discovery, interoperability, and long-term stewardship of biodiversity data.
