Abstract Research demonstrates the significance of contextual variables, early childhood learning experiences, and caregiver-child interactions in early childhood emotional development; however, the analysis of the evolution of this field has not received much attention. Specifically, research relates parenting styles with child emotional development (Baumrind in Journal of Early Adolescence 11:56-95, 1991). Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to analyze quantitatively and by co-occurrence of words and authors a total of 218 articles published in the Web of Science between 1994 and 2023, specifically, on the influence of parenting styles in early childhood emotion regulation development. The bibliometric analysis allowed the exploration of the state of the art of the field and made possible setting the future lines of research, identifying main contributors, articles and institutions. Based on the results and the literature, implications for research and practice are discussed; highlighting the importance of international collaborations between institutions in order to develop the cultural influences in the field. Moreover, it disclosed the fact that this field can still be considered as a young field of research, although during the last 3 years the field has evolved.
