Archaeological monitoring and recording during construction of a self-build dwelling, two storey detached garage, creation of access to highway and associated works to install driveway and garden in addition to package treatment plant. All the heritage assets within a c. 500m radius demonstrate multi-period settlement and occupation activity on the south facing slopes of Curry Rivel from the prehistoric period onwards. Metal detectorist discoveries close to the Site indicate the possibility of a settlement dating to the Roman period within the vicinity and are of particular interest. Historic map regression assessment shows that the Site has formed part of the agricultural landscape since at least the early 19th century.Despite the archaeological potential, no evidence of settlement or associated activity dating to the prehistoric or Romano periods were observed during monitoring of groundworks. A buried soil horizon was identified within an area of sloping ground, likely preserved due to a less intensive agricultural regime at the surface. Artefacts were only observed within the topsoil, comprising very small quantities of post-medieval pottery and ceramic building material (CBM), however none were collected.
