A BSTRACT Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are frequently related to sleep disorders, such as bad/sleep quality, insomnia, sleep apnea, and bruxism. In this systematic review, we integrated the evidence from seven seminal studies, all of which indicated worse sleep quality and increased pain sensitivity in TMD patients, and the degenerative joint changes are associated with stress and poor sleep. Although the association is bilateral, the evidence that the bruxism and obstructive sleep apnea are also bilateral is not consistent. Overall, the results illuminate the significance of the diligent assessment of sleep in TMD treatment and strengthen the value of a multimodal therapy in ANV treatment.
