Access to reliable and affordable lighting remains a major challenge in many rural areas, where frequent power cuts or the absence of grid electricity limit students’ study time after sunset. This project presents the design and development of an Affordable Solar Desk Lamp aimed at providing a sustainable, low-cost, and energy-efficient lighting solution for rural students. The system utilizes a photovoltaic solar panel to capture solar energy during the day, which is stored in a rechargeable battery and later used to power LED lights that offer high illumination with minimal power consumption. The lamp is designed to be portable, durable, and easy to maintain, using locally available materials to reduce manufacturing costs. A simple charge controller circuit ensures battery protection and efficient energy use. This eco-friendly design not only promotes the use of renewable energy but also contributes to educational development, enabling students to study effectively at night without relying on kerosene lamps or grid power. The project demonstrates that sustainable technologies can be both affordable and impactful, improving the quality of life in off-grid communities.
