In an effort to resolve taxonomic complexities among Indian Rotala species with verticillate phyllotaxy, this study provides an identification key, revised nomenclature, updated morphological descriptions including SEM studies of seed coat surfaces, detailed photoplates, and notes on phenology, ecology, and distribution. The study supports the conspecificity of R. kasaragodensis with R. occultiflora and R. vasudevanii with R. cookii . It also clarifies typification issues concerning R. verticillaris and R. wallichii , and designates a lectotype for the name Ammannia pygmaea .
