This paper explores the transformation of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) function within a global life sciences company’s IT department. It highlights the shift from centralized governance to a decentralized, agile model that empowers platform teams and accelerates decision-making. Key mechanisms such as guardrails, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and Architecture Fitness Functions support transparency and alignment. The study offers a blueprint for modern EA governance that balances autonomy with strategic coherence.
