The study examines the role of African universities in knowledge production and dissemination within Mali's academic landscape. The study employs a qualitative research approach, utilising in-depth interviews with university faculty members, policymakers, and community leaders to gather insights into their perceptions and experiences regarding the role of universities in knowledge production and dissemination. University activities were found to be predominantly focused on local issues, with themes such as agricultural development and health care education dominating the research agenda. African universities play a significant role in local knowledge production but are less involved in broader regional or global initiatives. The study recommends that African universities should expand their international collaborations to enhance their contribution to global knowledge networks.
