Small modular reactors (SMRs) offer significant prospects for widespread application due to their compact size, modularity, low cost and short construction period, rapid deployment capability, ease of assembly and transportation. Among them, small fast reactors have emerged as a key development direction for SMRs, owing to their high power density, long operational life, and inherent safety features. This paper introduces an overview of the characteristics of various small modular fast reactors, with a particular focus on the applications and key parameters of typical small sodium-cooled and small lead-based fast reactors (LFRs) around the world.and focuses on the applications and key parameters of typical small sodium-cooled fast reactors and small lead-based fast reactors in the world. Particularly, the paper discusses the development of small sodium-cooled and small lead-cooled fast reactors in China.
