ORU is defined as a change in the outer retinal gradient (negative to positive) of >/=3 within a diameter of 6 mm on OCT.1,2 ORUs are presumed to be indicators of subacute RD,3 and are formed because fluid accumulation leads to outer retinal hydration and lateral expansion, thereby reducing its elasticity and causing it to compress and buckle, leading to formation of undulations.
