MMP7 as a prospective marker of pancreatic carcinoma

Pancreatic carcinoma is a serious oncological disease with high mortality due to late diagnosis. Therefore, there is currently a high priority in research to discover a biomarker that can reliably diagnose pancreatic cancer at the earliest stage. 46 patients (35 patients with pancreatic tumor, 11 patients with inflammatory pancreatic diseases) were involved in this prospective study. Blood serum and tissue samples were analyzed by zymography to determine the active and inactive forms of MMP7. The difference in the level of the inactive form of MMP7 between the groups of patients with malignant and benign findings was statistically significant.
