Can scar characteristics analyzed by LGE-CMR predict appropriate therapies in patients with ICDs for primary prevention?

Population

Patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) for primary prevention

Intervention

Late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (LGE-CMR) for scar characterization (scar channels and scar mass)

Outcome

Appropriate ICD therapies (ventricular arrhythmias)hard clinical

LGE-CMR can identify primary prevention ICD patients at very low risk of ventricular arrhythmias based on the absence of scar channels and low scar mass.

Abstract

Scar characteristics analyzed by LGE-CMR are strong predictors of appropriate therapies in patients with ICD in primary prevention. The absence of channels and scar mass < 10 g can identify patients at a very low risk of ventricular arrhythmias in this population.
