This series (Fixation and Selection) investigates the same phenomenon within each round of the Life Cycle Table: the fourth step (fixation) forecloses the first step (selection). This essay unfolds Round 3 (9DD–12DD): how predictive law (12DD) forecloses choice (9DD). Round 3's foreclosure is cognitive — you can feel it, because foreclosure occurs within consciousness. The threefold mechanism — cognitive path dependence, confirmation bias in predictive law, cognitive energy conservation — forms a positive feedback loop. Two classes of pathways break foreclosure: pathways through 13DD (self-awareness) preserve subjectivity; pathways bypassing 13DD forfeit subjectivity. Addiction's structural root is the rewriting of 12DD — a highway bypassing 13DD.
