Despite widely available antiretroviral medication, in this cohort of rural adults living with HIV who experienced new onset seizure, HIV treatment uptake was poor and the most common seizure etiologies were opportunistic infections. Morbidity and mortality were high-37% died during the follow-up period Epilepsy development occurred in 24% of the cohort and prior central nervous system injury was a key risk factor for epilepsy.
