Industrialization has been one of the most important drivers of economic transformation in India. In West Bengal, towns such as Durgapur and Burnpur have emerged as major industrial centers due to the presence of steel plants, coalfields, and engineering industries. This paper examines the impact of industrialization on the socioeconomic conditions of the inhabitants of these towns from a geographical perspective. The study focuses on employment generation, urban growth, migration, infrastructure development, and environmental challenges. Using secondary data sources, government reports, and previous studies, the research analyzes how industrial expansion has shaped the economic opportunities and social structure of these towns. The findings suggest that industrialization has significantly improved employment opportunities, urban infrastructure, and income levels. However, it has also led to problems such as environmental pollution, inequality, and dependence on industrial employment. The paper concludes that sustainable industrial planning and balanced regional development are essential for improving the long-term socioeconomic conditions of the inhabitants.
