This essay provides a concise summary of the not-yet-published findings from a study conducted in Brazil between 2023 and 2024. The study captures the national trajectory of anti-gender politics, focusing on how it resurfaced after the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro in 2022, manifesting as a fierce onslaught on trans rights. The study also looks more closely into the role played by essentialist feminist streams, self-defined as radical or gender critical, in this resurgence.
