Streaming potential coefficient (SPC) is an electrokinetic phenomenon widely existing in geological science and engineering fields. However, the existing models for SPC cannot realistically account for the influence of the pore morpholohy. In this study, a novel fractal cosine pore-throat chain model for SPC of porous media composed of charged solid particles is proposed based on the cosine pore-throat structure and fractal geometry theory. The proposed model is expressed as a function of the properties of liquid, electrical parameters near the solid-liquid interface and microstructural parameters of porous media without any empirical parameter. Good agreement between the predicted SPC and experimental data as well as other models validate the validity of our model. Detailed discussions of the essential effects of the microstructural parameters of porous media and electrical parameters are performed. Thus, the proposed model may reveal the mechanisms affecting the SPC in porous media with greater accuracy.
