ABSTRACT Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) have shown great futuristic aspects owing to their specific strength and thermo‐physical features. The glass‐forming ability (GFA) of BMGs is still mysterious. The present work is devoted to understanding the GFA of BMGs in the framework of thermodynamic temperatures. The importance of Kauzmann temperature (T K ) and isenthalpic temperature (T 0 ) has also been reported. The thermodynamic parameters such as T k /T m , , (T g —T K ) / T m , has been estimated, and it is found that materials having high exhibit a large value of T k /T m and such materials require a low value of critical cooling rate, R c , for the formation of a glassy structure. It is noticed that materials possessing a large T K are showing a small value of (T g —T K ) / T m and require a small value of R c for glass formation.
